As in any other field the scientific base of qigong is important. Below we introduce some papers that give some scientific support for the effects of qigong. Please note that the results below have been proven by the mentioned qigong teacher and qigong method and cannot straight off be said to be valid for other practitioners or methods.

Inflammation

Title: Effects of Zhineng Qigong on Experimental Inflammation and Neutrophil Chemiluminescence.
Qigong teacher: Su Dongyue.
Professor: Chen Xiangyin.
Institute: Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, P. R. China.
Published: "Journal of Microcirculation" (China), # 3, 1993.
Results: The results showed that Zhineng Qigong could significantly inhibit carrageenan-induced rat paw edema (p<0.01) and stimulate neutrophil CL in vitro (p<0.01).
Awards: Best Paper award from the First World Traditional Medicine Conference (USA, april 1994)

Memory and learning ability

Title: Effect of Zhineng Qigong on Receptor activity of Brain Synaptic Membranes in rats.
Qigong teacher: Su Dongyue.
Professor: Zuo Pingping.
Institute: Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, P. R. China.
Published: "Oriental Science Qigong" # 3, 1993.
Results: The receptor of rat brainsynaptic membranes can successfully recieve the information of Zhineng Qigong, cerebral cortex and hippocampus (both have close relation to learning and memory) and the function of M-receptor were enchanged by increasing the affinity with their ligand.
Awards: Best Paper award from the International Somatic Science Conference (U.S.A., May 1995).

Cancer

Title: Effects of Zhineng Qigong on Sarcoma (S-180).
Qigong teacher: Su Dongyue.
Professor: Li Mei et al.
Institute: Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, P. R. China.
Published: "Oriental Science Qigong" #1, 1993.
Results: S-180 was significantly inhibited by Zhineng Qigong. The inhibition rate was 84.4% (p<0.001). Both light and electron microscope showed that the tumor cells degenerated.
Awards: The paper was awarded by the International Somatic Science Conference (USA, May 1995).
