Ellen practise Zhineng Qigong for the back and neck

I started to practise Zhineng Qigong for two reasons: First, I was curious about what it was, and second, which was more important – I wanted to try to get help with my back and neck problems.

Ellen was sceptical at first. When I started to practise with European Zhineng Qigong Center in the spring of 1998 I was seeing a chiropractor about once every week to get help and I was in constant pain. Nothing seemed to help, and I really started to despair. I remember that I was not particularly hopeful when I joined that first Weekend Course, especially not after being shown what the exercise looked like! Would it really help anybody to stand there waving the arms about a little and bend down to the floor? I was really sceptical about it.

After finishing the course I still could feel that something had happened and that my shoulders were somewhat more relaxed than usual. No great change but something had happened just the same! Being logically inclined, I decided to practise for a period every day for six weeks and then make an evaluation of the results. It felt fine. After a few months I started joining the organized Evening Training and I could see a clear change. I continued my training.

European Zhineng Qigong Center´s Summer Course in 1999 proved to me that this is not merely some little soft gymnastics aimed at helping the body but it is also a training method for the mind and the person as a whole. I got a real boost forward and upward for both my body and my soul. The Summer Courses are fantastic events that I have continued to take part in every Summer since then.

The course has not been absolutely straight. It has been hard on many occasions, but the results I have got! I rarely have any pain in my neck or in my back. I can still feel it, but the number of my visits to the chiropractor is as low as about four or five times a year, as compared to about 40 when I was at my worst state. I no longer plan my life according to the present state of my back. I do not need to. I have gained many things in the bargain: A good posture, a better way to deal with stress, an improved function of my stomach (food allergy), my body is much more supple, I have found many new friends, and much more.

Zhineng Qigong has become a daily and very positive part of my life. It is important to make clear that you do not have to be ill in order to practise Zhineng Qigong. If you are healthy already, then make sure that you stay that way. Give yourself the same chance that I did! It has changed my life on many levels, both physically and mentally.
